How to Judge A Man

I was recently informed by someone I greatly admire on how he judges future friends, business partners etc.  He said he would judge a man in three ways:

  1. His Manners
  2. His Dress Sense
  3. His Entrance

Let me break these three subjects down for you:

  1. His Manners :  A future friend and or business partner must, always present themselves in an amicable way. Despite reports to the contrary, over ambition is a very negative trait. A man showing arrogance can come across as desperate or worse, mutinous. A man who presents himself in a manner that fits his surroundings an his company shows confidence and adaptability - and these two traits are to be desired.
  2. His Dress Sense : A man should not try to dress younger than his age. And if the man is young, he shouldn't dress in such a provocative way. The word provocative struck me as interesting as it is a semantic you would normally associate with women, however, men donning garish outfits for the sake of it look out of place and uncomfortable.
  3. His Entrance: Looking like you 'own the place' and 'owning the place' are two very separate entities, and you should never do the former. If you want a meeting to work, you should respect the environment your in, most probably it is one that is not entirely familiar and that should show in your entrance. Stand out, stride confidently and purposefully. Never dither. But never come across as arrogant - and this is the fine line one must tred.
These 'rules' are new to me, but something I have taken onboard immediately and something I will unwittingly use for the rest of my days. Especially rule number 2.

As a man now approaching 21 and with the the dawn of my career ahead of me I can no longer attire myself in 17 year old hipster chic. To be taken seriously is too dress well. A lesson I have very quickly learned.
