Marcus Mumford is a man rising to highest realms of the music world. After establishing himself as part of the New Age British 'power couples', recently marrying actress Carey Mulligan, Marcus Mumford and his band can now claim to have the fastest selling album of 2012.
This is a feat not to be ignored, Mumford & Sons have beaten the likes of Justin Bieber and One Direction. They are now behind Adele in the long list of great British exports to have cracked America, even a band of the Arctic Monkeys stature haven't had the success that Mumford & Sons have experienced.
However, there remains among critics and hipsters generally a unmerited hatred towards the band. There is, as far as I'm aware, no real reason as to why they are so disliked. The bands sound is different, the folk genre has become mainstream and thanks to artists like Laura Marling, Mumford & Sons were allowed to expand into the mainstream.
The bands new album and recent American tour, have led to be labelled 'the new Coldplay' - this comparison can only serve to fuel the claims that Mumford & Sons are "boring" or "dull". The fair-weather festivals fans - as NME put them - make up the large range of festival goers, and if rumoured Mumford & Sons line up as one of the headliners for a main festival - for the large majority it would be seen as a major 'pull'.
