Dad VS Son - Fantasy Band

A year or so ago my Dad and I were watching a program on the BBC where a panel would discuss and  argue over who would be in their fantasy rock band.

So, inspired by this, my Dad and I are pitting our musical tastes against one another to see who's band is the best.

Comment below over who's your favourite and leave your own fantasy bands!

Dad:

The Drums: Keith Moon - The Who

Moon was The Who's manic drummer who destroyed his drum kit in a form of "elaborate art". Moon battled with drink and drugs, however, his ability as a drummer and the iconic sounds that emanated from his kit allowed him to go down as one of the greatest drummers of all time.

Bass Guitar: Flea - Red Hot Chilli Peppers

Flea, along with Anthony Kiedis and Hilel Slovak, was a founding member of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in the mid 80's. Flea was credited with being one of the most diverse bass players of his generation, changing is style from album to album - allowing the Chilli Peppers sound to grow with him.

Lead Guitar: Jimi Hendrix

Hendrix was one of the most, if not the most, complete guitar players ever seen. He held change the way guitar was played and how they could sound - introducing the wah-wah pedal during his solo's in order to create a new or different sound. Hendrix was influenced by the jazz and blues of his time and put that sound into his soulful rock melodies.

Frontman and Rhythm guitar: Caleb Followill - Kings of Leon

Probably the most controversial decision amongst the band. However, Followill's voice creates and epitomises Kings of Leon's sound. The rasping nature, almost at times of breaking point, is iconic in many of King's of Leon's songs - none other than in the famous (and overplayed) Sex on Fire:

Tom:

Drums: Dave Grohl - Nirvana/ Them Crooked Vultures

The only drummer who could ever create riffs on his kit. Some of Grohl's sounds have perplexed some of the greats and allowed him to craft his sound and image into one of the greatest rock drummers, if not legends, of all time.

Bass Player: Flea - Red Hot Chilli Peppers

We chose the same bass player - thats how good he is.

Lead Guitar: Jimmy Page - Led Zeppelin

For Kashmir, for Whole Lotta' Love , for Stairway to Heaven. Page was described as having "one of the great brains of rock music" - Page's power riffing and playing has become a staple mark for many of todays modern's bands. The sound or opening riff of a song can be just as iconic as the lyrical content.

Front (wo)man: Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse, in my opinion, has the best voice I've heard. I know i'm only 20 - but her voice is staggering. You know upon listening to one of her songs that its her immediately. The market she was originally being exploited by, she ended up owning and creating a musical genius in her wake. Like many greats she was taken too soon, however the music she created is quite simply astonishing.
