This Weeks Music

This week is the 10th anniversary of the release of 'Up The Bracket' - The Libertines first album. The album was brash, fast paced and aggressive. The piece is expertly composed by Mick Jones (The Clash fame) and was promoted as London's answer to The Strokes. Very much like their New York counterparts, The Libertines caused a new riot during their first intimate live shows, and were taken to the heart by the NME.

Frontmen Carl Barat and Pete Doherty, had a fraught relationship. Pete and Carl would be displaying the love on stage, sharing the mic and displaying a lot of generall affection for one another. The pair would eventually split apart and with them they would take the raw talent The Libertines had to offer to the music world.

Personally, my favourite song from 'Up The Bracket' is: 'Time for Heroes' and incredibly well crafted and lyrically intelligent song. Have a listen below:

Jake Bugg's album is released this coming Monday (15th). I am a huge fan of Jake and his music. The rockabilly nature of his riffs and the excitement and simplicity of his live shows are a rarity within a world of mediocre singer/song writers (yes you Ed
Sheeran)

So far it has been receiving incredible reviews, both the NME and Daily mail gave it 9/10. The guardian, somewhat predictably gave Bugg 3/5 stars, however this is only a blip on a somewhat polished CV which includes Noel Gallagher as a huge supporter of his. Keep and eye out for Jakes February UK tour and grab a copy on his album on Monday!
